WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 1.1
• Optional automatic hiding of Backdrop when Finder is the front application.
• Users with more than one display will see a smaller CPU load than with version 1.1.
-------------------------------------------------
DESCRIPTION
Backdrop is a small application that creates a window the size of the desktop and fills it with the desktop pattern you have selected in the General Control Panel. The effect is to hide all of the icons and windows behind this window, allowing you to focus on the applications you are currently working on without the destraction of the Trash and disk icons. This function is also useful when you are showing your work to another person and want him or her to focus on it.
-------------------------------------------------
USING BACKDROP
Backdrop is an application. You simply double-click on it in the Finder to start it. You may want to place it or an alias to it in your Apple menu.
Menu Commands:
Opaque - Backdrop covers the desktop
Transparent - Backdrop is hidden
Always Transparent In Finder - Backdrop is hidden when Finder is used.
All menu settings are remembered between launches.
Typically, you will open the documents that you wish to work on first. Then open Backdrop and use the application menu to bring the application(s) that you want in front of Backdrop to the front. To show obscured windows, click on the desktop or select BackDrop from the Application menu. Backdrop will then come to the front. You can then:
1) Select "Hide Backdrop" from the Application menu. Select "Show Backdrop" to show it again.
2) Select "Transparent" from the Backdrop menu, which makes the Backdrop go away temporarily. Select "Opaque" when you want to use the Backdrop again.
3) Select Quit if you are finished using Backdrop.
Since it is an application, it follows the same rules as other applications with regards to window ordering. Use the application menu to set this order the way you need it.
Backdrop also has the ability to always hide itself when you are using the Finder.
-------------------------------------------------
INSTALLATION
You may place Backdrop any place you find convenient. If you like to use it often, I suggest placing an alias to Backdrop in your Apple menu.
Backdrop uses about 32Kb of RAM.
-------------------------------------------------
COMPATIBILITY
I have run Backdrop on a variety of systems, including PowerBook 100, SE/30, Quadra 700 and Centris 610 systems and have found no major problems. Some conflicts may occur with other software that affects background patterns, such as Wallpaper. Usually this means that backdrop will use the last standard pattern selected in the General control panel rather than the enhanced pattern provide by the extension.
